November 13, 2015 Update!

Happy November!

We have had a VERY busy last few weeks.  Thank you to all of you for taking time to come to Parent Teacher Conferences and hear about your child's progress so far in Kindergarten.  It is so important to develop a relationship between home and school so we can help your child grow.

Our Halloween Party was awesome!  The kids had fun making lots of crafts, playing games and sharing their costumes.  Thank you to all the parents that helped to plan and came to help our kids celebrate!

We have been working on a lot of BIG skills in Kindergarten!
Language Arts:
-Identifying the characters, setting, beginning, middle and end of texts.
-Comparing texts by the same author or on the same topic and telling what is similar and what is different.
-Identifying beginning sounds and ending sounds in words.
-Counting the number of syllables in words.

Mathematics:
-Writing numbers up to 20.
-Completing addition problems by counting on (taking big number and counting up)
-Telling which is heavier, lighter, longer, shorter, less and more.

Writing:
-Stretching words to hear all the sounds when writing.
-Using capital letters at the beginning and punctuation at the end of sentences.

Things to Work on at Home:
-Sounding out words when writing ---- write a grocery list, a letter to a family member or a list of names from your family.
-Logging minutes in the Million Minute Challenge with Biblionasium!
-Number writing practice with proper formation (not self-taught formation!)

As a class we are working on Being Respectful of one another.  As kids start to get more comfortable with one another, they can sometimes start touching one another and have a harder time keeping their hands to themselves.  Can you please discuss this your child?  Also, please encourage them to talk with a teacher if someone is not being kind or following the rules!

Next Tuesday, I have my next session of Research for Better Teaching.  I will start the morning with our class and then will head to the District Office for the rest of the day once the students are settled.  Mrs. Jane Lambshead will be here for the day with the class.  She has substituted for me for other training days and is very familiar with our classroom routines.

Next Thursday is Mustang Motto Day!  We will wear our class t-shirts to show school and class spirit!

Next Friday, November 20th is Caps for Kids.  Donate $1 (or more) and wear a favorite hat for the day!  Donations go to the Caps for Kids Foundation that supports children battling cancer.

Be sure to check out the Awesome ABC Book that the kids created with Mrs. LaHucik on our iPads! It is posted on our blog!

As always, feel free to e-mail me with any questions or concerns!  Have a great weekend!
