January 22, 2016 Update

I hope you enjoyed your four-day weekend!  We had a busy four days in Kindergarten.  We have done Learning Centers for the past few weeks.  The kids are enjoying doing a variety of activities and having to keep themselves accountable for completing their work.  At the end of each week, we staple their Centers work together and they bring it home. 

Just a few reminders:
-If your child is having a playdate and will not be picked up by you, please send me an e-mail.
-Please try to empty red folders each night!
-Don't forget winter gear each day ---- Any day in double digit temperatures (and wind chill) the students will go outside!
-If you have not returned your conference preference time, please do so early next week.

We have been working on:
Language Arts:
-identifying the characters, setting, beginning, middle and end of texts
-changing letters from one word to make a new word (i.e. man changes to pan)
-breaking words into individual sounds
-Identifying the ending sounds in words

Mathematics:
-showing numbers in teens using manipulatives and pictures that we create
-completing addition problems up to 12 with the counting on strategy
-counting by 5s, 10s and 1s to 100

Writing:
-Holding pencils and crayons correctly.
-Sounding out words independently
-Making finger spaces between words in sentences.
-Writing more than one sentence about a topic.
-Starting a sentence with a capital letter and ending with a period.  
-Forming "Frog Jump" letters (F, E and D, P, B and R)

Things to Work on at Home:
-Reading and entering minutes into Biblionasium online for the Million Minute Challenge
-Counting by 5s and 10s to 100.
