December 11, 2015 Update

It's hard to believe that we have one more week and then it's Winter Break!

Our Class Winter Party will be next Friday afternoon from 1:30 - 2:30.  A Sign-Up Genius was sent to sign up if you would like to help out for that celebration!

Your child's First Trimester Report Card is coming home today.  As we discussed at conferences in October, students are assessed to see if they have masters different skills.  NP means Not Yet Proficient, AP means Approaching and PR means Proficient.  Many students and skill areas are "Approaching (AP)" at this point in the school year because students are working toward a larger goal.  If your child has received an NP in an area, these are the areas we would like to focus on and reinforce at home.  As always, please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Here's our schedule for next week:
Monday - Shakespeare Assembly in the morning
Thursday - Mustang Motto Day - Horseshoe Hooray Store, Wear your Mann School gear or Rocket t-shirt!
Friday - Class Winter Party

We have been working on:
Language Arts
-breaking words into individual sounds, ex. b-a-t
-identifying rhyming words
-identifying kindergarten sight words (see post below this post with first 10 words!)

Mathematics:
-number writing
-identifying numbers that come before and after a given number
-using tens frames to represent numbers in the teens
-showing numbers in teens using manipulatives and pictures that we create

-completing addition problems up to 12 with the counting on strategy

Writing:

-Writing numbers with correct formation.
-Holding pencils and crayons correctly.

-Sounding out words independently

-Making finger spaces between words in sentences.

Things to Work on at Home:

-Areas identified in report card.

-Sounding out words in writing ---- the kids know their letter sounds, now they just need to apply them to writing!
-Reading and entering minutes into Biblionasium online for the Million Minute Challenge ---- the school is halfway there!
