We had a great week in the four short days! The kids have voted and we are the Rapoport Rockets! Watch for t-shirt information soon!
We had a special assembly with Officer Coleman from the Oak Park Police Department. He talked to the kindergarten thru 2nd grade classes about bicycle safety, safe walking and stranger danger.
Please remember to send a healthy nut-free snack with your child every day. I prefer that they save liquids other than water for lunchtime as we sometimes snack and work at the same time and don't want to spill on our work.
Don't forget to empty your child's red folder each night!
We are in the process of finalizing plans for the Halloween Party in class. You should receive a letter from Mrs. Cole explaining the procedures for the school-wide parade and parties. I will communicate more information as things are finalized.
Here's what we worked on this week:
Language Arts:
-writing sentences in our journals with filling in blanks. I am encouraging some of the students to sound out the words that they hear and use developmental spelling in their journals.
-following text from left to right when reading.
-logging into the Lexia online program to practice phonemic awareness and pre-reading/reading skills.
Math
-number writing 0-10 thru games and practice sheets
-number sense for single digit numbers
Handwriting:
-holding our pencils, crayons and scissors correctly
Things to Work on at Home:
-zipping coats independently
-reading or being read to 20 minutes a day and logging minutes for our Million Minute Challenge!
Have a great LONG weekend!
