Brrr! Now it is starting to feel like fall and look more like it, too! Please dress your child appropriately in the morning for recess and lunchtime recess. LABEL everything with your child's name so it can be returned if lost!
This week I sent out a few e-mails regarding classroom happenings:
-conference schedule for next week. My conferences are throughout the week (Tuesday thru Thursday). Remember that Thursday and Friday are half days with 11:00 Dismissal!
-If you would like your child to receive a class t-shirt in a size other than small, please read my e-mail with directions!
This week was our "evaluation" week for our Passport to Reading program. We will meet as a grade level team next week to regroup the students and prepare for the 2nd round of Passport Phonemic Awareness activities. The kids seem to be enjoying this program and are making growth as well!
We had our first Bus Evacuation Drill to practice riding on a school bus and evacuating in case of an emergency.
Halloween is just around the corner. You should have received an e-mail from Mrs. Cole regarding the schedule for the day. Kindergarten students are being encouraged to go home at lunch like the rest of the school to put on their costumes. If they are unable to go home that day, they can come to school in costume or if their costume is simple and does not need a lot of assistance, they can dress in the classroom after lunch. Please keep in mind that they will have a full morning of learning and "regular" activities including Gym Class!
Here's what we worked on this week:
Language Arts:
-writing sentences in our journals with filling in blanks. I am encouraging some of the students to sound out the words that they hear and use developmental spelling in their journals.
-following text from left to right when reading.
-logging into the Lexia online program to practice phonemic awareness and pre-reading/reading skills.
-identifying the initial sounds in words
Math
-number writing 0-10 thru games and practice sheets
-number sense for single digit numbers
Handwriting:
-holding our pencils, crayons and scissors correctly
-drawing people with details, appropriate body parts and shapes (ask your child about our lesson on Mat Man with Ms. Jessie!)
Things to Work on at Home:
-zipping coats independently
-reading or being read to 20 minutes a day and logging minutes for our Million Minute Challenge!
Have a great weekend! Stay warm!
